Mirroring National Harvest Results, Pioneer Brand Corn Shows Consistent bu/A Advantage Over Competition
JOHNSTON, Iowa — The winners in the annual National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) Corn Yield Contest have been announced, and farmers who planted Pioneer® brand corn products took home top honors — winning 13 national and 219 state awards. Headlining the winners was Don Stall of Charlotte, Michigan, who achieved the highest overall yield by producing 476 bu/A using Pioneer® brand P0720AM™ — the fourth year in a row a Pioneer product helped deliver that title. In all, farmers who planted Pioneer brand corn products placed first or second in 41 states.
“We congratulate all the NCGA Corn Yield Contest winners, many of whom faced a myriad of challenges and all of whom delivered in the midst of a global pandemic,” said Judd O’Connor, President, U.S. Commercial Business, Corteva Agriscience. “The contest results reflect what we saw at this year’s harvest, where our most popular Pioneer brand corn products won the majority of competitive on-farm trials averaging a more than 4 bu/A yield advantage — helping farmers win contests, but more importantly, hit on-farm goals.”1
Despite a range of extreme conditions in many areas posed by events like drought, derechos and hurricanes, farmers were still able to deliver impressive yield results when harvest entries were tallied. With a diverse seed lineup bred to deliver in a variety of conditions, Pioneer brand corn products performed exceptionally well in the contest, showcased by the more than 80 unique Pioneer products placing among all state and national winners.
“Today’s farmers are no strangers to dealing with adversity, and in spite of that, it’s inspiring to see what farmers can achieve each year in top-end yield results when coupling their intensive management practices with best-in-class seed products,” O’Connor said. “Farmers can be confident that Pioneer has the right hybrid to help reach their yield goals and improve farm income by growing more bushels across their corn acres.”
U.S. corn farmers compete annually in the NCGA Corn Yield Contest. Designed to feature the genetic yield potential of modern hybrids and serve as an opportunity to learn from their peers, farmers enter to compete in six corn production classes: including non-irrigated (A and AA), no-till/strip-till non-irrigated (A and AA), irrigated and no-till/strip-till irrigated. The AA Non-Irrigated class is open to Midwestern producers in Wisconsin, Ohio, Missouri, Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana and Illinois. The A Non-Irrigated class is open to any producer in the continental United States outside of the AA class.
